The latest in the case of the broken hard drives

Estimates came back for hard drive recovery to get my nearly 210 gigs of photos back: $700-3900. So...I can either go without paying rent for several months or kiss the idea of ever getting my work back goodbye.

  1. Did they tell you they CAN recover the files, or is this what they will charge assuming they CAN recover it? I think you should just hang onto those drives, save your money, and some day when you can afford to pay for it, do it.

  2. They say they can recover 90% of most drives and these are ones that have been submerged in water, set on fire, or wiped. Unfortunately in a way, I have to get this done by December because that's when the replacement warranty is up for one of the drives. I have to turn it over to get a replacement but I want to get the data off it first. ;(

  3. Probably better to keep the drives anyway, and just buy new ones...they are quite cheap these days...and save those old ones until you can afford to get them recovered.
I can only imagine how bad this is for you...MY photos SUCK, and I still would not want to lose them...while yours are great, so you really need to get them back.
