Admit it: you wanted to see more of Robert Levon Been under colored lights

These are totally out of order- and the last one I nearly didn't include at all because it's blurry and that light sucks- but oh well. I have a nice wine buzz going and I don't care.

That otherwise-not-quite-up-to-quality-standards picture is one of the few I got where RLB got on guitar and was on the right side of the stage* where HRC and I were standing.

I thought I'd make at least one more BRMC post today in PURDY COLORS seeing as how I've received more hits in this blog on one single day today than ever before because hardrockchick.com
and thus my lil ol' photo blog by extension got picked up by http://www.brmc-forum.com (and now I'm seeing http://www.brmcgeneration.com/photos.html -yay, wooo!). *Hi, People!*

Like I say in my little bio over there on the side of the page, I don't care what you do with my photos- I see lots of you downloading them- and that's cool...just credit me if you use them anywhere and don't sell them. That's all I ask. I don't own the boys and neither do you! Cheers! ;)

P.S.- I've still got more to upload but like I said, I shot 1700 pictures of the band, and pruning them has been quite an undertaking. Yet more coming...it's an obsession, what can I say?

*Which reminds me: Peter Hayes with bass...to come! ;)

Leah Shapiro

...is a very competent drummer. She just never stopped. I hate to use a pop culture cliche, but yes, Energizer Bunny comes to mind.

Not a great picture, but drummers always are hard to shoot...and "in the interest of equal time" and such.

More still later...I'm getting there! One more folder of pictures to go! ;)

A frivolous, self-absorbed thought

Two weeks ago I moaned that I needed a black dog as a subject to get out of my photographic equivalent of writer's block. I didn't need a black dog; I needed Black Rebel Motorcycle Club.

(LOL)

G'Night. I mean it this time...;)

Peter Hayes is red and alone, so very alone.

I had to do one more before I went to bed tonight.

Just figured out that from the 1700 I shot Friday night, I cut down my number of "good" pictures to 400. Now it's just a matter of pruning those 400 down to say, 20. *sigh* I'm a terrible self-editor.

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club (before the show): "That is love."

Hardrockchick.com saw Peter tweaking his setup just a few feet away from where we were standing and commented on his perfectionism: "That is love."

*yawn* Tired tonight...still more to come later...

a macro of a leaf after rain + random thoughts as of late featuring black dogs

Going through old pictures again since I'm having trouble finding anything to shoot right now.
________________________________________________

How about a worthless trivial sidebar that has absolutely nothing to do with this photo?

Been fascinated with black dog legends lately… Black Shuck, Cu Sìth, and Garm, the Cŵn Annwn, Barghest, Gytrash and the like…both the stories themselves and how the folkloric origins of the legends later became corrupted once Christianity took hold particularly in the British Isles and Scandinavia. It's this turn that makes me especially engrossed by the few variations of these stories post-Christianity that allow for the benevolent nature of these spectral beasts- the protective dogs that accompany lone women travelers and the visions of these dogs that appear as warnings rather than indicators of inevitable danger. Not all the stories attribute them to hellhounds, animalistic grim reapers, cannibalistic shapeshifters or demonic portents of certain death.

My first pet was a mongrel black dog, Sam, a stray dog of approximately 6 months old who adopted *me* when I was two and a half years old. He showed up one day at my father's station and we became instantly inseparable. I have no idea how much this fact plays into my interest in this myth, but maybe it does. He most definitely was an awesome dog who loved me as much as I loved him. He tried to follow me to Kindergarten when I started school and would wait by the gate for me after school when I started riding my bike in first grade. As a child born on Friday the 13th, and a little weird anyway, I was always absorbed by supernatural folklore so from a pretty young age I was aware of the concept of witches having familiars- but never being a cat person, I thought it was just as appropriate to have a black dog as it was to have a black cat.

So, back to the point. I've been kicking some story variations around in my head based on the black dog- but I know myself well enough to know that I can start a story but it doesn't mean I'll ever finish it. Instead, and even better, I want to find a black dog to photograph. I think maybe this is why I've turned to photography in part in the first place- I may be a wordy person with a lot of ideas, but I tend start writing a lot of things that I never finish. With photography- snap! you've got it; you're done...

This being said: wanting to photograph something and actually finding that *thing* to photograph- the difference between wish and reality- therein lies the wide chasm of dull disappointment. Hmmm.

Oh well. *shrugs* The good news is that after a couple of weeks, I finally have an idea. Now I just need to find a big, black dog. An English mastiff would be perfect. *sigh* I wish I knew where to find one.

disengage switch

Blocked someone on Facebook tonight. I feel guilty but he was really annoying me. I'm not normally such a bitch.

One of my most favorite pictures, ever.

My favorite photo, ever, until I took the one of Evie and Bella last October anyway.

As taken:

With Photoshop:

I don't know which I prefer.

Waterspirits

Wanted to be creative tonight, resorted to old photos since neither muse nor opportunity were forthcoming.

Goddess Athena

I hope she doesn't mind I'm posting this on my blog but I'm kinda proud of it. I'm especially proud because the minute prior I took a picture of myself in shadow and she said, "Oooo! Take one like that of me!" and I was afraid I couldn't because A) I was drunk and B) it was an accident. Seems I pulled it off. I Photoshopped her a little bit but I think it looks fantastic as it adds to the mysteriousness of the composition.

Spot the ghost

From a couple of weeks ago.
I posted them on my Facebook but not here, so now that that's been remedied: these are for Kristy who liked the surrealist one below and for mentioning me in her blog even though I don't have a public writing blog. Thanks, Kristy!

Flora Louise

I've got nothing better to do today except try not to be sick, might as well look through pictures and practice being better friends with Photoshop.

So here's "Burlesque Me" from the other night. The wig is named Flora Louise after Louise Brooks.

I was on a platform behind a stage that was ordinarily a guy's bedroom. I set the camera on his bed and ran really fast across the room against the wall before the ten second timer went off.
[I was by myself and a little drunk while I did this, which would explain why I forgot to make sure the camera didn't take itself off of monochrome for the first shot. I usually don't like myself in color. ;0]

This was the second shot, and I put the camera back on monochrome. In this one post-production, I fixed Louise's hair, the skuzzy ends of my lace gloves, and removed a wristband and also an annoying spot on the wall behind my head in Photoshop:

I hate Photoshop, but I think I did okay with it. :)

Practice, I guess.

I'm sick again...and playing with Photoshop.

I am going to try to post things a little bit bigger provided they don't run into the column on the right. I meant to do that at the start of January (new year, clean post start date) but forgot.

Juxtaposition

I'm not allowed to post anything I shot last night but I hope that since there's nothing really identifiable in this picture that I won't get in trouble with the party mafia.

Perry Farrell & Dave Navarro's Black Canary Barbie

Because I'm dieting like madwoman this week to fit into *my* corset by next Saturday, I remembered that I had shot about 1000 pictures of a man wearing one...
From last May...because I never uploaded any of these for some reason.

an attempt at surrealism

Me as a ghost [again]

An experiment with the fake ghost thing in color since the oranges match my hair. *shrugs* I think it still works better in black and white but I take too much stuff in black and white, particularly pictures of myself.

[I keep adding things that really don't show up small. Sorry. Especially you people with small screens who don't like to click on the images to enlarge them. You'll just have to take my word for the fact that my hair matches the oranges...or maybe that there are oranges in this picture at all?]

cacophony of crows

I know better than to try to take pictures when it's dark, but...
caw caw caw caw caw caw caw caw caw caw caw caw.

New Year's Blue Moon

There are other shots where the moon is bigger or more visible, but I decided I liked it lost among the branches in this composition- however, it *must* be seen large to appreciate it.
In other words, you really *should* click for detail!
